Mollichaff Light Molasses Free – 12.5kg

Light is the leanest bag Mollichaff make. Sugar is declared at 1.8% — the lowest figure anywhere in the range and roughly a tenth of what is in the molassed chaffs — with energy at 7.5 MJ/kg and protein at 4.5%. It is fibre and very little else, which is exactly what a laminitis-prone native or an overweight cob needs in a bucket.

Fibre is the highest in the range at 32%, and soya oil at 8% carries the essential fatty acids that keep skin and coat right on a calorie-restricted diet. There is no molasses, no alfalfa, no cereal and no preservative in it, so it can go into a feed for a horse on a strict veterinary diet without unpicking the rest of the plan.

Feeding

• Feed alongside good-quality, low-sugar forage as part of a calorie-controlled ration.
• Mollichaff publish no feeding rate or scoop weight for Light, so none is stated here.
• Use it to replace part of a bucket feed or a portion of over-rich forage, rather than adding it on top of the existing ration.
• Introduce gradually over 7–10 days.
• Keep clean fresh water available at all times.
