Henry Bell Nest Box – 32mm Entrance
Henry Bell's standard Nest Box is made from lightly stained timber with silver fittings, and it has a 32mm entrance hole. That hole size is the one to know: 32mm is wide enough for house sparrows as well as blue tits and great tits, which makes it the most broadly useful hole box a garden can put up.
Henry Bell state that the box complies with all safety recommendations. It has drainage holes in the base so a wet spring does not soak the nest, and a top-opening lid, so the old nest can be cleared out in autumn ready for the next year's birds.

How to Use
- Fix the box firmly to a wall, tree or post, ideally facing between north and east to avoid strong sun and the wettest winds.
- Mount it at least 1.5m up, with a clear flight path to the hole and out of reach of cats.
- Tilt it very slightly forward so rain runs off the front.
- Put it up in autumn or winter so birds can find it before nesting starts.
- Each autumn, lift the lid, remove the old nest and scald the inside with boiling water, then let it dry.

Care & Caution
- It is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 to disturb an active nest. Leave the box alone from March to August.
- Only open and clean the box between September and January, once you are sure it is empty.
