Equine America Fly-Repel Gel – 500ml

Fly-Repel Gel is the thickened version of Equine America's Fly-Repel repellent, made for the places a spray will not stay: around the eyes and ears, along the midline, and on a horse that will not stand for an aerosol. Being a gel, it is applied by hand or cloth and stays where it is put rather than drifting on the wind.

Equine America publish a full specification for the Fly-Repel Spray but not for the gel — their own site notes only that the Fly-Repel product is available as an easy-to-use gel as well as a spray. What follows is therefore what they publish for the range, with the gaps left as gaps rather than filled in from elsewhere.

How to Use

• Apply by hand or with a cloth to the areas that need it, working it into the coat.
• Take particular care around the eyes, nostrils and mouth — apply to a cloth first and wipe on rather than applying directly.
• Reapply after heavy rain, washing or a hard sweat.
• Wash your hands after use.
• Test a small patch on a new horse and leave it a few hours before treating a large area.

Specification

• Sold here in a 500ml tub. Equine America do not state a pack size for the gel on their own website.
• Equine America publish no ingredient list, active concentration, HSE registration number or duration-of-protection figure for the gel.
• For the Fly-Repel Spray they declare p-menthane-3,8-diol at 1% w/w, HSE No 8498, and protection lasting up to eight hours.
• A claim of up to 24 hours' protection has appeared on retail listings for this gel, including earlier copy on this page. Equine America publish no such figure for Fly-Repel in either format, so it is not repeated here.

Care & Caution

• This is an insect repellent, not a grooming product. Keep it out of the eyes, nostrils and mouth, and off any broken or sore skin.
• Do not apply to sweet-itch sores, open wounds or sunburnt skin.
• Wear gloves if you are applying it repeatedly, and wash your hands afterwards.
• Keep out of reach of children, and do not use it on any animal it is not intended for.
