Vanner & Prest Hoof Oil is the traditional black-tar hoof oil, and it smells like it — pine tar oil combined with mineral oil, with the distinctive aroma Carr & Day & Martin acknowledge in their own description. It is the oil people mean when they say they use hoof oil: brush it on, and the foot comes up with a deep show-ring shine straight away.
This is the litre bottle, which is the practical size for a yard or for anyone oiling four feet several times a week. Carr & Day & Martin put 500ml at around two months of regular use, so a litre roughly doubles that. Alongside the shine it locks moisture into the hoof, which is the working half of the job.

- Apply with a hoof brush to the entire hoof.

- Make sure the hoof is clean before you start; oil over mud seals the mud in.

- Carr & Day & Martin state 500ml lasts up to two months with regular use, so expect around four months from this litre.
