Carr Day & Martin Protection Plus Antibacterial Waterproofing Skin Ointment – 500ml

Carr & Day & Martin Protection Plus Waterproofing Skin Ointment – 500g

Protection Plus is the pink salve in the Carr & Day & Martin health range — a thick, waterproof barrier ointment built on petroleum jelly with oil of citronella worked into it. Its main job is keeping wet and mud off vulnerable skin, which makes it a standing item in most tack boxes through a British winter.

The classic use is heels and pasterns before turnout onto wet ground, where it acts as a barrier against mud fever and similar conditions. The citronella carries the characteristic smell and gives insects less reason to settle on the treated area. It is a protective salve rather than a medicine: it shields skin, it does not treat an established infection.

Performance & Benefits

• Thick pink salve that protects and waterproofs.
• Acts as a barrier against mud fever and similar wet-weather skin conditions.
• Petroleum jelly base gives a genuinely waterproof film that stays put.
• Oil of citronella gives it the distinctive scent.
• Covers evenly and re-applies easily over the same area.
• Keeps well in a tack box and is useful the whole year round.

Suitable For

• Heels, pasterns and lower legs before turnout onto wet or muddy ground.
• Vulnerable areas that need a physical barrier through winter.
• Grazes and minor surface wounds that need keeping clean and dry.
• Horses prone to mud fever as a preventive measure.
• Not a wound treatment or an antibiotic — an established, hot or discharging infection needs veterinary attention, and for general itching of the mane and tail Killitch is the product in this range for that.

How to Use

• Make sure the affected area is clean before you start.
• Apply liberally to affected or vulnerable areas, covering evenly.
• For best results, apply before exposure to wet and muddy conditions rather than afterwards.
• Re-apply daily, or as required.
• Wash your hands after use.

Care & Caution

• Clean the skin thoroughly first. A waterproof barrier applied over dirt seals the dirt in, which is worse than leaving the area bare.
• Do not pack it into a deep or puncture wound — those need to drain and need a vet.
• Keep it out of the eyes.
• Stop use and seek veterinary advice if the skin underneath becomes hot, swollen or starts discharging.
