Canagan Shepherd's Pie Wet Dog Food – 400g

Canagan Shepherd's Pie Wet Dog Food – 400g

Shepherd's Pie is a single-meat recipe: freshly prepared lamb at 65%, with sweet potato, carrot, pea and broccoli making up the rest. No poultry, no fish flesh and no beef — the only other animal-derived items are green lipped mussel and salmon oil, both there for joints and coat rather than as protein.

It is also the densest of Canagan's dog cans. Moisture is 75%, where the turkey and chicken recipes run at 80%, so a 400g tin of this carries noticeably more dry matter than a 400g tin of those. Crude fat is 8.5%, the highest of the four, which makes it the one to reach for with a dog that struggles to hold weight.

Performance & Benefits

• 65% freshly prepared lamb as the single meat in the recipe.
• Moisture 75% — the lowest of the Canagan dog cans, so more food per tin.
• Crude fat 8.5%, the richest of the range, with crude protein at 10.2%.
• Green lipped mussel supplying glucosamine at 100 mg/kg.
• Grain free, with sweet potato, carrots, peas and broccoli.
• Complete and balanced, so it works as a meal in its own right.

Suitable For

• Dogs that need to gain or hold condition, given the higher fat and lower water.
• Puppies and adults — Canagan publish feeding tables for both.
• Dogs avoiding poultry, as a lamb-led wet food.
• Useful as a single-meat wet food, though not a strict exclusion diet — salmon oil and green lipped mussel are both in it.
• Too rich for a dog on a fat-restricted diet; Canagan Turkey and Duck Dinner at 5.2% fat is the leaner can.

Feeding

• Adult dogs by size: toy 1–5kg take a quarter to half a can a day, small 5–12kg half to one and a half, medium 12–25kg one and a half to two and three-quarter cans.
• Larger adults: 25–45kg take two and three-quarter to three and three-quarter cans, giant 45–70kg take three and three-quarter to five and three-quarter.
• Puppies: toy take half to one and a half cans, small one and a half to two and a half, medium two and a half to four, large four to eight.
• Introduce over a few days, raising the proportion of the new food each day.
• Adjust by 10% either way on condition, and keep fresh water down at all times.
