Hair of the Dog is Animology's anti-tangle shampoo, aimed at the coats that knot faster than they get brushed — doodles, spaniel feathering, long-coated terriers and anything that has spent the week in wet grass. Animology describe it as an anti-tangle shampoo enriched with vitamins and conditioners, for removing knots, tangles and matted hair.

The detangling work is done by polyquaternium-10, a conditioning polymer that coats the hair shaft so a comb slides rather than snags, backed by glycol distearate and the built-in conditioner used across the range. It is pH balanced and Animology mark it puppy friendly from six weeks. It loosens tangles; it will not dissolve a solid mat.

How to Use

• Wet the coat thoroughly with warm water.
• Apply and work into a lather from the neck down, avoiding the eyes and ears.
• Animology recommend leaving the lather on for five minutes before rinsing completely — on a tangled coat this is the step that does the work.
• Rinse out fully, then comb the coat through in sections while it is still damp, starting at the ends and working back towards the skin.

Care & Caution

• Keep it out of the eyes and ear canals, particularly on a dog whose ear feathering you are working through.
• Rinse until the water runs clear. Conditioning polymer left in a thick coat attracts dirt and re-tangles it within days.
• Declares the fragrance allergens linalool and hexyl cinnamal. For a dog that reacts to scented products, use the fragrance-free Animology Derma Dog shampoo.
• Do not soak and dry a heavily matted coat. Wet mats shrink tight against the skin and can restrict circulation — have them clipped out first.
