Kitt-e-Litter is wheat straw, pelleted. Sundown make it from 100% British straw — a by-product of the wheat harvest rather than a mined mineral — and it is free of clay, silica, additives, chemicals and fragrance. For a household that has been shovelling bentonite around, the difference in weight alone is noticeable.

It is a non-clumping litter. The pellets absorb rather than ball up, expanding to as much as three times their size as they take up urine, which is exactly why Sundown tell you not to overfill the tray. Waste can go on a home compost heap or into a garden waste collection, subject to what your council accepts.

How to Use

• Replace the whole tray every week or so, depending on how many cats use it and how often you clear it.
• Compost the used pellets at home with faeces removed, or put them out with garden waste — check with your local council first.
