Racing nutrition runs into one hard contradiction: the starch that fuels fast work is the same starch that damages the stomach, and a very large share of horses in full training have ulcers. Ulca Power Cubes hold starch to 12% while still delivering 12.5 MJ/kg — high-energy racing fuel with the starch load of a leisure feed.

The gastric ingredients are named in the composition rather than implied: Maerl as Acid Buf at 0.5%, a marine calcium source that helps maintain stomach pH, with dried oligo-fructose at 0.2% and yeast products at 0.1%. Vitamin C is included at 300 mg/kg. It carries the BETA EGUS approval mark.

Feeding

• 500kg racehorse in full training: 6kg a day, divided into a minimum of three meals.
• Or 3kg Ulca Power Cubes with 3kg Spillers Ulca Fibre daily, each split across at least three meals.
• Feed alongside ad-lib forage — an empty stomach is a key ulcer risk factor.
• Introduce gradually, as with any new feed.
• Clean, fresh water at all times.

• Composition: wheatfeed, soya (bean) hulls dehulled (genetically modified), sunflower seed meal dehulled, rice bran, cane molasses, dried (sugar) beet pulp (unmolassed), rapeseed oil, calcium carbonate, sodium chloride (salt), maerl (Acid Buf, 0.5%), oligo-fructose (dried, 0.2%), yeast products (0.1%).

Care & Caution

• Gastric ulcers need veterinary diagnosis and treatment. This feed supports management alongside veterinary care; it does not treat ulcers.
• This is a full racing ration. Cut it back sharply on rest days — a performance ration fed to a horse standing in is a recognised trigger for tying up.
