Rowen Barbary Condition & Performance 20kg – Slow-Releasing Energy Feed for Horses
Rowen Barbary Condition & Performance – 20kg
Condition & Performance is Rowen Barbary's high-oil blend, built on micronised barley, micronised full fat soya and flaked maize with soya oil and micronised linseed on top. At 8.5% oil and 13 MJ/kg it is the most calorie-dense feed in their range, aimed at horses that need to put weight on and hold a topline through medium to hard work.
Seaweed meal, calcareous marine algae, brewers yeast, spearmint and garlic go in alongside the cereals, and the spearmint in particular tends to get fussy feeders eating. It is a cereal-based mix all the same: Rowen Barbary declare starch at 22.5%, so this is a feed for a horse that needs the energy rather than one that holds condition on air.
Performance & Benefits
- High oil at 8.5%, giving 13 MJ/kg of digestible energy for condition and sustained work.
- Micronised barley, full fat soya and flaked maize — micronising makes the cereal starch easier to digest in the small intestine.
- Soya oil and micronised linseed for coat condition and slow-release calories.
- Brewers yeast, seaweed meal and calcareous marine algae for natural minerals and hindgut support.
- Spearmint and garlic for palatability, which is the reason it works with fussy feeders.
- Fully balanced with vitamins A, D3 and E, so it does not need a separate balancer alongside.
Suitable For
- Horses and ponies needing a higher-calorie feed for weight gain.
- Building and holding topline in medium to hard work.
- Horses in poor condition coming back into work.
- Fussy feeders that leave a plainer mix.
- Not for laminitic, insulin-resistant or PPID horses — starch is 22.5%. Rowen Barbary Solution Mash or Forage 'n' Fibre are the right feeds there.
Feeding
- Feed alongside forage, adjusting to bodyweight, condition and workload.
- Rowen Barbary's guide gives 2.5–3.75kg a day for a 500kg horse of 15–15.3hh in medium or hard work, or in poor condition.
- Split the daily amount across at least two feeds.
- Introduce over 7–10 days, replacing the previous feed gradually.
- Can be fed dry or damped down. Supplied in a 20kg bag.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: micronised barley, oatfeed pellets, micronised full fat soya, micronised flaked maize, molasses, lucerne pellets, soya hulls, soya oil, micronised linseed, dried grass, brewers yeast, seaweed meal, calcareous marine algae, spearmint, garlic.
- Digestible energy 13 MJ/kg. Protein 12%. Oil 8.5%. Fibre 12%. Starch 22.5%. Sugar 4.8%.
- Vitamin A 10,000 iu/kg. Vitamin D3 2,000 iu/kg. Vitamin E 200 iu/kg.
- Rowen Barbary publish no ash, calcium or phosphorus figure for this blend, so none is stated here.
- Figures of 11.5% fibre appear on some retail listings, with no sugar figure at all; Rowen Barbary declare 12% fibre and 4.8% sugar, and the analysis above is theirs.
Care & Caution
- At 22.5% starch this is a cereal feed. It is not suitable for a horse that is laminitic, insulin resistant or diagnosed with PPID.
- Keep individual feeds small — no more than about 2kg of hard feed in one go for an average horse — and introduce it gradually.
