A treat stick works on a cage bird for the same reason a chew works on a dog: the value is in the time spent getting at it, not the calories. These are selected seeds, nuts and cereals bound with honey onto a stick, enriched with apple, banana, raisins and currants, so a bird has to pick and lever its way through rather than eating from a bowl.

Johnson's make them at 45g a stick, the larger of their two treat formats, and list them for cockatiels, parrots and similar cage birds. Anything much smaller than a cockatiel is better on the canary-sized honey bar, which is 35g and made of seed alone.
