Hilight Veteran Mix – 20kg

Veteran Mix is Hilight's feed for older horses and ponies, in a 20kg sack. The practical case for a veteran mix is chewing: an ageing mouth with worn or missing molars copes better with a softer coarse mix than with a hard cube, and a horse that can eat comfortably will usually hold its weight better through a winter.

Hilight is a merchant brand sold through country stores rather than direct, and publishes no product website of its own. Feeding

• Introduce over 7 to 14 days alongside the existing feed.
• Feed to bodyweight and condition score, and re-check condition monthly through winter.
• Damp the feed if your horse quids or is slow to clear the bucket.
• Forage, soaked if necessary, should still be the largest part of the diet.
• Hilight publish no feeding rate online, so use the rate on the sack.
• Fresh clean water at all times, and check water is not frozen in cold weather.
