SPILLERS Lite & Lean Balancer – 20kg

Lite & Lean is the balancer for a horse on a weight-loss programme — soaked hay, restricted grazing, a muzzle. Cutting calories cuts nutrients with them, and a horse in a calorie deficit still needs its full requirement of vitamins, trace minerals and quality protein. At 500g a day this delivers them in a serving small enough to sit in a cup.

Protein is 18% and lysine, methionine and threonine are the amino acids Spillers push, because a horse short of protein on a restricted diet loses topline before it loses belly. Starch is 7% and sugar 3%, there is no whole cereal grain, and cinnamon at 0.4%, magnesium and FOS are in there for metabolic support.

Feeding

• Feed 100g per 100kg of bodyweight daily: 250g for a 250kg pony, 500g for a 500kg horse.
• A Spillers balancer cup holds approximately 250g.
• Feed in a small amount of low-calorie chopped fibre so the horse has something to chew.
• Weigh or tape the horse fortnightly and adjust the forage, not the balancer.
• Clean fresh water at all times.
