Four different fish go into this recipe: freshly prepared Scottish salmon at 30.5%, dried herring at 12.2%, freshly prepared trout at 6.6% and dried salmon at 5%, with dried white fish at 2% behind them. Add the salmon oil and salmon stock and the fish content comes to a little over 60% of the bag, with no poultry or red meat anywhere in the list.

Omega 3 is declared at 2%, the highest in Canagan's dry dog range, which is the reason most people buy it — oily fish for a dog with a dull coat or itchy skin. The 2kg bag is the smallest of the three sizes and suits a small or medium dog, or a trial before committing to a sack.

Feeding

• Canagan's adult guide, maintenance under an hour of exercise a day: 5kg dog 80g, 10kg 120g, 15kg 150g, 20kg 200g, 30kg 290g, 40kg 370g, 50kg 450g.
• Active dogs over an hour a day: 100g, 150g, 190g, 240g, 350g, 420g and 540g at the same weights.
• Puppies feed by expected adult weight — 65–90g for a 1–5kg adult, 145–180g for 5–10kg, 215–255g for 10–25kg and 375–430g for 25–45kg, tapering back as they mature.
• Introduce over a week, adjust by 10% on condition, and keep clean water available.
