Ancol's Heritage Leather Hound Collar is cut in the traditional sighthound shape, wide through the front and narrower at the buckle, from genuine European bridle leather and made in the UK. This is the tan collar in size 4–5, for necks of 34 to 43cm.

The wide front spreads the load across a long, slim neck, which is why hound collars are the usual choice for greyhounds and lurchers. In tan, with contrast stitching, it suits greyhounds, lurchers and other larger sighthounds.

Suitable For

• Not the best choice for a dog that swims or wades on most walks. Repeated soaking is hard on leather and can make the dye run, so a nylon collar copes better with water.

How to Use

• Measure around the neck where the collar will sit, usually the narrowest part just behind the head.
• Fasten the buckle so it is snug but you can still slide two fingers underneath, and check it cannot slip over the head.
• Turn the collar so the wide section sits at the front of the throat.
• Add an ID tag. In the UK, a dog in a public place must wear a collar with the owner's name and address on it or on an attached tag.

Care & Caution

• Leather is a natural, porous material, so slight differences in colour and finish are normal.
• Avoid soaking it. The natural dye can transfer when the leather is wet, which shows on a pale coat.
• If it does get wet, let it air dry naturally, away from radiators, hairdryers and other direct heat.
• Treat with a suitable leather conditioner once a year, and store somewhere dry when not in use.
• Check the stitching and buckle holes from time to time, and replace it if it is worn or damaged.
