Sunflower seed is the single food most garden birds will take, and this is Henry Bell's compact black feeder built for it. It comes from the Heavy Duty Everyday range: aluminium, finished in black, and a smaller version of the full Heavy Duty feeders with the same construction and the same all-in-one base.

That base is the practical difference. It runs under the feeding tube as one wide piece, giving birds more room to stand and catching the husk and fragments that would otherwise end up on the lawn. Filled with sunflower hearts it leaves almost nothing beneath it; filled with black sunflower seed it keeps most of the shell litter in the tray.

How to Use

• Open the lid and fill with sunflower hearts or black sunflower seed.
• Hang from a station arm, a bird table hook or a branch, within a few metres of cover.
• Empty the base tray of husk and crumbs each time you refill.
• Wash weekly with warm water and a bird-safe hygiene spray, then dry thoroughly before refilling.
• Throw out any seed that has got wet; hearts have no shell to protect them and spoil quickly.
