The Rastrick is Whitaker's fine mesh fly rug, and the fixed hood is what makes it worth choosing over a plain fly sheet. A separate neck cover always leaves a gap at the wither for flies to work into; a hood built into the rug does not, so the horse gets continuous cover from the poll to the tail.
The open mesh construction is the other half of the job. It has to keep flies off without turning into a greenhouse, so the fabric is woven fine enough to exclude insects while still letting air move through it. White reflects heat rather than absorbing it, which matters on a still summer afternoon.

How to Use
- Measure your horse from the centre of the chest to the point of the buttock to confirm the size
- Fit over the head and settle the hood so the eyes and ears are clear
- Fasten chest, belly and leg straps so the rug cannot shift or twist
- Check the fit daily and look for rubs at the shoulder, wither and poll
- Remove, shake out and check the rug regularly through the season
