Pea gravel is the default choice for a reason: the stones are small, naturally rounded and smooth-edged, so the finished surface is comfortable to walk on and settles into an even bed without the sharp, angular look of crushed stone. This is the 10mm grade, which is fine enough to rake level and heavy enough to stay put.

It works as a decorative mulch over borders, as a top dressing on pots and planters, as infill between paving and stepping stones, and as a free-draining layer around a garden building. Supplied in a handleable bag rather than a bulk sack, so it can be carried through a house or side gate without a barrow.

How to Use

• Clear the area of weeds and level the ground before laying
• Lay a permeable membrane first if you want long-term weed suppression
• Tip out and rake to an even depth
• Rinse with a hose to bring up the colour once laid
