Scruffs Small Animal Ceramic Set – Fruit

The Fruit set is the same idea as the rest of the Scruffs small pet ceramics but built to a smaller scale: an apple-shaped house at 10 x 10 x 10cm, a round 13cm sand bath, and a food bowl 8cm wide, 11cm deep and 3.5cm high. All three are fired dolomite, glazed in fruit colours.

The 10cm cube house is the point of difference. It is a snug nest for a dwarf hamster, a gerbil or a mouse, and a lot of small rodents prefer a tight space to a roomy one. A large Syrian hamster, though, will find it cramped — that is the animal the bigger Colours house is for.

How to Use

• Place all three pieces on the cage floor and leave space around the house entrance.
• Fill the sand bath roughly three quarters full and refill as sand is kicked out.
• Put a small amount of bedding in the house so the animal can build a nest.
• Hand wash only in warm water; keep the set out of the dishwasher.
• Dry each piece fully before it goes back into the cage.

Care & Caution

• Take any piece out of the cage the moment it chips or cracks. Broken dolomite has a sharp edge, and a hamster will investigate it with its nose and feet.
• The pieces are dense for the size of animal they are made for. Keep them on the cage floor rather than on a platform, where a fall could injure the pet underneath.
