Lincoln Plastic Salt Lick Holder – Pink

A moulded plastic cradle that holds a standard 2kg salt or mineral lick, in pink. The block sits in the basket with its face exposed, so a horse can work at it without the lick ending up in the bedding, in the mud or at the bottom of a water bucket.

The plastic has some flex in it, which is what lets a block be pushed in and gripped rather than dropped in loose. Fixed at chest height in a stable or on a field shelter post, it keeps the lick clean, keeps it out from underfoot, and means most of the block gets eaten rather than wasted.

How to Use

• Fix the holder to a solid wall, post or partition at roughly chest height for the horse using it.
• Flex the sides and push the block in until it seats properly.
• Check the fit before you leave the horse with it.
• Replace the block once it has worn down enough to move about in the cradle.
• Wipe the holder out between blocks; salt residue builds up quickly.

Care & Caution

• Fix it where a horse cannot catch a headcollar, rug strap or leg on it, and clear of where a horse turns or rolls.
• Check the plastic for cracks and sharp edges each time you change the block, and replace the holder if you find any.
• Salt licks sit alongside a balanced ration rather than replacing part of it. Take nutritional advice if a horse is licking obsessively.
• Youngstock will chew a plastic holder. Site it out of reach or keep an eye on it.
