Lincoln Plaiting Thread – PK12

Plaiting thread for sewing plaits rather than banding them. A sewn plait is drawn up with a blunt plaiting needle and stitched closed, so it keeps its shape through a full day in a way a banded plait rarely manages.

Sewing takes longer than banding and needs a needle, which is not included here. What the extra time buys is a tighter, flatter plait that sits against the crest, does not work loose in the rain, and looks right in a photograph. It is the traditional finish for showing and for dressage at the sharper end.

How to Use

• Choose a thread that matches the mane as closely as you can.
• Thread a blunt plaiting needle and plait the section down as usual.
• Sew through the end of the plait, roll or fold it up to the crest, and stitch it in place.
• Finish with a knot pulled tight against the plait and trim the ends short.
• Unpick with a seam ripper, working from the crest downwards.
