Lincoln Plaiting Thread PK12 Horse Grooming Braiding Thread
Lincoln Plaiting Thread – PK12
Plaiting thread for sewing plaits rather than banding them. A sewn plait is drawn up with a blunt plaiting needle and stitched closed, so it keeps its shape through a full day in a way a banded plait rarely manages.
Sewing takes longer than banding and needs a needle, which is not included here. What the extra time buys is a tighter, flatter plait that sits against the crest, does not work loose in the rain, and looks right in a photograph. It is the traditional finish for showing and for dressage at the sharper end.
Performance & Benefits
- Strong enough to draw a plait up tight and hold it against the neck all day.
- Sewn plaits sit flatter and closer to the crest than banded ones.
- Holds through wind, rain and a long journey, where bands work loose.
- Fine enough to disappear into the plait rather than sit on top of it.
- Cuts cleanly with a seam ripper when the plaits come out.
Suitable For
- Shows, dressage, hunting and any long day away from the yard.
- Riders who prefer a sewn plait to a banded one.
- Producers and grooms plaiting several horses through a season.
- Needs a blunt plaiting needle, bought separately — for a quick plait with no needle, Lincoln Plaiting Bands are the faster option.
How to Use
- Choose a thread that matches the mane as closely as you can.
- Thread a blunt plaiting needle and plait the section down as usual.
- Sew through the end of the plait, roll or fold it up to the crest, and stitch it in place.
- Finish with a knot pulled tight against the plait and trim the ends short.
- Unpick with a seam ripper, working from the crest downwards.
Specification
- Plaiting thread for sewn mane plaits.
- Lincoln barcode 5027286068895.
- Listed as PK12. Lincoln publish no pack breakdown, so no quantity is stated here.
- Thread colour, reel length and fibre content are not published by Lincoln, so none are stated here.
- No plaiting needle is included.
Care & Caution
- Cut thread ends are easily eaten. Collect every offcut off the floor, out of the bedding and out of the lorry.
- Use a blunt plaiting needle, and keep needles counted and put away after use.
- Do not leave sewn plaits in beyond the day. Thread left tight against the crest rubs and breaks the mane.
- Unpick with a seam ripper rather than working scissors against the neck.
