Same Admiral colourway as the narrow lead — honey leather, navy-and-white polo-belt pattern — cut on the wider of the two straps KM Elite make. The extra width is not about strength so much as about what it feels like when a dog takes up the slack: a wide strap spreads across the fingers instead of biting into them.

It is a Petworth Collection lead, made from leather finished to show the grain rather than sprayed to hide it, which means it darkens and softens as it is used. KM Elite publish no width measurement for either strap, so the 2.5cm quoted on retail listings is not their figure.

How to Use

• Clean the leather with a leather cleaner — KM Elite recommend Renapur — and work it in rather than soaking it.
• If it gets wet, blot the moisture off with a dry towel and let it air dry away from direct heat.
• Do not machine wash and do not dry it on a radiator or in an airing cupboard.
• Feed the leather occasionally rather than waiting for it to go stiff; leather that has dried hard does not come back.
• Clip to the collar's D-ring or harness ring and hold the lead folded flat, never wrapped around the hand.
