Henry Bell Sterling Peanut Feeder – 32cm

The Sterling Peanut Feeder is a 32cm aluminium mesh column holding 500g of whole peanuts. The mesh is the whole point of it: birds peck fragments off a whole nut through the wire instead of carrying the nut away, which is what makes peanuts safe to leave out in the breeding season.

Like the rest of the Sterling range it is built from hardwearing aluminium with a silver finish, and both the lid and the base come off so the tube can be emptied and washed properly. An easy-flow base keeps nuts moving down as the level drops rather than leaving a stale plug at the bottom.

How to Use

• Lift the lid, fill with up to 500g of whole peanuts and replace it.
• Hang it where you can see it, but with no cat launch point within a couple of metres.
• Tip out any old nuts before refilling rather than topping up over them.
• Wash in warm soapy water with a mild disinfectant every two to three weeks, rinse and dry fully.
• Check the nuts after heavy rain and discard anything damp or discoloured.

Care & Caution

• Whole peanuts must never be offered loose during the breeding season. A nestling given a whole nut can choke; a mesh feeder like this one is what makes them safe.
• Use peanuts from a supplier that tests for aflatoxin, and discard any that smell musty. Mouldy nuts are toxic to birds.
• Check the mesh for damage. A split or badly bent panel can release a whole nut and can also trap a bird's foot.
