Six of Henry Bell's standard fat balls, made from fat and a mix of seed and grain and supplied without nets. Henry Bell call fat balls a staple feed — easy to use, highly nutritious and providing much-needed energy all year round — and this is the smallest pack, enough to fill a fat ball feeder once or twice.

That makes it the pack to start with: put a few balls out and see what comes, or keep a pack in reserve for a cold snap. If the birds take to them, Henry Bell make the same ball in a pack of 25, a tub of 50 and larger bulk boxes.

Feeding

• Place the balls in a fat ball feeder, on a bird table or in a feeding tray.
• Site the feeder near cover but away from anything a cat can climb.
• Keep unused balls cool and dry in their pack.
• Clean the feeder regularly and provide fresh water for drinking and bathing.

Care & Caution

• May contain nuts and is packed in an environment where nuts are present. Made for wild birds; not for human consumption.
• Never feed any fat ball in a plastic net — feet and beaks get caught. These are supplied net-free.
• In hot weather fat softens and can smear on feathers. Put out less at a time and discard anything rancid or mouldy.
