Equine America Turmeric Xtra – 3kg

Turmeric Xtra is a ready-mixed turmeric supplement: 24.6% turmeric powder blended into 71.6% full-fat linseed, with black pepper at 0.8%, calcium carbonate and vegetable oil. The oil is already in the mix, so there is no separate linseed or flax oil to buy and stir in, and the piperine that helps curcumin absorb is already there too.

A 50g daily serving supplies 12.5g of turmeric, 40mg of piperine, 114mg of vitamin E and 6.8g of omega 3. Equine America's rate is up to 50g a day for a 500 to 650kg horse and up to 30g a day for a 300 to 450kg pony, introduced gradually over seven days. At the horse rate a 3kg tub is a 60-day supply; at the pony rate it runs to about 100 days.

• Not a joint treatment. A horse that is lame or losing mobility needs a veterinary diagnosis first — a supplement supports a diet, it does not treat a joint.

Feeding

• Horses 500 to 650kg: introduce gradually over 7 days up to a maximum of 50g daily.
• Ponies 300 to 450kg: introduce gradually over 7 days up to a maximum of 30g daily.
• Overall maximum 100g a day. A 25g measure is supplied.
• 3kg tub: 60 days at the 50g horse rate, roughly 100 days at the 30g pony rate.
• Also sold in 1.5kg, which Equine America rate as a 30-day supply at the horse rate.
