Lincoln Dogbone Sponge – Red

A moulded sponge shaped like a dog bone: wide at each end and waisted in the middle. The waist is the point of it — the sponge sits in a closed hand without squirting out of your grip when it is full of water, which is more than can be said for a plain rectangular sponge.

The foam is open enough to hold a good charge of water and to give it back under gentle pressure, and it dries between uses rather than sitting sour in the bottom of a bucket. This one is red; the same sponge is made in other colours, which is useful if you keep one for the face and another for the dock.

• Dry it in the air rather than sealed in a grooming box, and replace it when the foam starts to crumble.
