Classic is the maintenance diet in the Chudleys working range — the one to feed a dog that is ticking over rather than working hard. Chudleys build it round whole grain wheat and poultry meal at a minimum 14% chicken, with lamb meal and chicken fat behind them, and set the analysis at 19% protein and 12% oil. That is enough to hold condition on a dog doing light work, out of season or resting, without the extra fat of Working Crunch.

The recipe carries Chudleys' QLC antioxidant package, yeast as a source of mannan oligosaccharides, and carnitine at 125mg/kg, which is there to help the dog use fat for energy. A tail of botanicals — seaweed, blackcurrant, rosemary, pomegranate, rosehips, yucca schidigera and beetroot — runs through most of the Chudleys range and this is no exception.

Suitable For

• Adult dogs on a lower workload, or resting between seasons.
• Kennels feeding a steady, unfussy maintenance ration.
• Dogs that hold weight sensibly on a moderate-fat diet.
• Not enough fat or protein for a dog in hard work through the season — Chudleys Working Crunch at 24% protein and 15% oil is the one for that.
• Not suitable for a dog that cannot have wheat: Chudleys Lamb Sensitive or Chudleys Salmon with Rice & Vegetables are formulated without wheat gluten.

Feeding

• Small dogs, 5–10kg: 110–190g a day.
• Medium dogs, 10–25kg: 190–385g a day.
• Large dogs, 25–45kg: 385–600g a day.
• Very large dogs over 45kg: 600g and upwards.
• Split the daily amount across two meals and adjust to condition and workload. Fresh water at all times.
• Introduce over several days, mixing an increasing share into the current food.
