Animology Paw & Nose Balm – 50ml

Nose leather and paw pads are the two bits of a dog that take the most weather and have the least coat protecting them. Animology's balm is aimed at both: they describe it as moisturising and soothing for a dog's nose and paws, built on a blend of sweet almond oil, jojoba wax, shea butter, oat oil and vitamin E.

What separates it from the usual tin of solid wax is the format. It comes in a 50ml squeeze tube and is soft enough to apply straight from it, so you are not digging a hard balm out of a pot with your fingers and putting them back in afterwards. Animology state it is 100% vegan.

• It is a moisturiser, not a barrier product or a wound dressing — a pad that is split open or bleeding needs a vet.

How to Use

• Squeeze a small amount onto a fingertip.
• Gently massage it into the nose and the paw pads.
• Apply regularly rather than heavily; a thin film absorbed in is worth more than a thick layer licked off.
• Applying after a walk, or last thing at night, gives it longer to sink in before the dog works at it.

The list currently shown on their product page is character for character the list published for their Dirty Dawg no-rinse spray, and contains none of the five oils and butters they name for this balm, so it is plainly a copy-and-paste error on their site and is not reproduced here.
• Earlier copy on this page claimed the balm protects paws from hot pavements and rough terrain. Animology make no protection claim for it, only a moisturising and soothing one, so that is not repeated.

Care & Caution

• Keep it out of the eyes when working on the nose.
• A pad that is split, bleeding or has something embedded in it, and a nose that has gone hard, crusted and depigmented, both need veterinary attention. This is a cosmetic moisturiser and treats neither.
• Dogs will lick their paws. Apply thinly, and if a dog licks it all off immediately, distract it for ten minutes rather than reapplying more.
• Formulated for dogs. Do not use it on cats.
