Ancol Viva Adjustable Dog Collar – Pink, 45–70cm (Size 5–9)

Between 45cm and 50cm the two larger Viva adjustable collars overlap: this 45–70cm one starts exactly where the 30–50cm collar is nearly out of webbing. A 47cm neck will physically fit either, but it sits at the very end of the smaller collar's adjustment and at the beginning of this one's, which is much the better place to be.

That is why a dog in the 45–50cm band belongs here. Ancol number the collar size 5–9, the webbing is their poly-weave, and both buckle and slider are proportioned for the size of dog wearing them. Pink is made in this size and in the 30–50cm one, but not in the small collar.

How to Use

• Measure round the base of the neck with a soft tape, over the dog's normal coat, and write the number down before choosing a size.
• Ancol's size numbers are their own collar scale, not breed sizes: 1 is 20–26cm, 2 is 26–31cm, 3 is 28–36cm, 4 is 35–43cm, 5 is 39–48cm, 6 is 45–54cm, 7 is 50–59cm, 8 is 55–63cm, 9 is 59–68cm.
• "Size 5–9" means the collar adjusts across the top five sizes on that scale. Ancol's stated range, 45–70cm, is what matters when you compare it with your measurement.
• If your measurement falls between 45 and 50cm, choose this collar rather than the 30–50cm one: it will be part-tightened rather than fully let out, so there is room to loosen it later.
• Fit so two fingers lie flat between the webbing and the neck, which is Ancol's own check.
• Machine wash at 30°C. Do not bleach or tumble dry, keep it out of direct heat, and dry it fully before refitting.

Care & Caution

• Check the fit again a fortnight after buying. A collar bought at the bottom of its range often needs letting out once the dog settles or the coat grows.
• Inspect the buckle for cracks monthly and replace the collar if you find one; it is the part that fails.
• A collar is not a tethering point. Do not leave a dog attached to anything by it.
• Rinse sand and salt out of the webbing after a beach walk, before it dries into the slider.
