A gate handle is the one place where a person is meant to touch an electric fence, so what it is made of matters more than what it costs. The Standard Plus is Agrifence's insulated handle connection for access through an electric fence, with an internal extension spring that keeps tension on the line once the handle is hooked home.

That spring is the difference between a gateway that works and one that sags. It pulls the gap closed as the handle goes on, so the conductor stays taut and off the ground, and it takes up the slack that would otherwise develop every time the gate is opened. Black is the plainest of the four colours Agrifence make.

How to Use

• Fix the anchor at one post and hook the handle to it from the other side.
• Take hold of the insulated body only, never the hook or the line.
• Let the spring back under control rather than releasing it suddenly.
• Unhook towards yourself, standing clear of the line as it recoils.
• Switch the energiser off before fitting, repairing or re-siting the gateway.

Care & Caution

• Grip the insulated body only. The hook and the fence line it connects to are live.
• The internal spring is under tension when the gate is closed. Release it under control; a handle let go under load will whip back.
• Isolate the energiser before any work on the gateway or the line either side of it.
• Replace the handle if the insulation cracks, splits or perishes rather than repairing it.
• Show anyone who will use the gateway how to hold and release the handle before they need to.
