24 x Pallet of Dengie Fresh Bed for Chickens - 100 Litre Premium Poultry Bedding
24 x Pallet of Dengie Fresh Bed for Chickens – 100 Litre Bales
A full pallet of 24 bales of Dengie Fresh Bed, delivered in one drop and cheaper per bale than buying singly. Dengie put a bale of 100 litres at about four weeks for five hens, so a pallet is roughly two years of bedding for a small flock, or a season for a rescue running several coops.
Fresh Bed is finely chopped, dust-extracted straw coated with pine oil, developed in association with the British Hen Welfare Trust. The pine oil is there as a natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent, and the fine chop makes it soft underfoot — which is the point for ex-commercial hens coming out of cages with poor feathering and sore feet.
Performance & Benefits
- 24 bales of 100 litres on one pallet, delivered together and cheaper per bale.
- Dust-extracted straw, which protects the respiratory health of housed birds.
- Pine oil coating acts as a natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent in the coop.
- Finely chopped and soft underfoot, well suited to ex-commercial and rescue hens.
- Breaks down much faster than shavings or wood pellets and composts well.
- Developed in association with the British Hen Welfare Trust, which Dengie support through sales.
Suitable For
- Chickens, ducks, geese and pheasants.
- Ex-commercial and rescue hens needing soft footing.
- Nest boxes as well as the coop floor.
- Smallholdings, rescues and multi-coop setups buying a season at a time.
- Not suitable for rabbits, guinea pigs or other small furries — Dengie are explicit about that.
How to Use
- Use in nest boxes and across the floor of the coop.
- Dengie's guide is that 100 litres lasts about four weeks for five hens, and 50 litres about three weeks for one or two.
- Spot-clean droppings and damp patches regularly, and strip out fully as needed.
- Compost soiled bedding; it breaks down quicker than shavings or wood pellets and makes good compost for vegetables.
- Keep the pallet off the ground and under cover until use.
Specification
- Pallet of 24 bales, each 100 litres.
- Material: finely chopped, dust-extracted straw with a pine oil coating.
- Also bagged in 50 litre bales for smaller flocks.
- Dengie publish the bale volume in litres but no bale weight, so no weight is stated here.
Care & Caution
- Not suitable for rabbits, guinea pigs or other small furries. This is Dengie's own warning and it is worth taking seriously — small furries eat their bedding, and this one is oil-coated.
