The largest of the three bags Canagan make of this recipe, and the one that changes the economics. Same kibble throughout: 45% freshly prepared duck, 8.5% dried duck, 6% dried herring, 4% freshly prepared venison and 4% dried rabbit, at 32% crude protein and 400 kcal per 100g.

Canagan cost the 4kg bag at around 56p a day for a 3kg cat, 70p for a 4kg cat and 91p for a 5kg cat at their recommended amounts. On those figures one 4kg cat takes close to three months to empty it, which is the point at which a bag this size stops being a bargain and starts being a storage problem.

Feeding

• Canagan's adult guide by bodyweight: under 2.5kg 25–35g a day; 2.5–3.5kg 35–45g; 3.5–4.5kg 45–60g; over 4.5kg 60g and above.
• Canagan's kitten guide goes by age: under two months 20–30g a day; two to four months 30–55g; four to six months 55–75g; six to twelve months 75g and above.
• At 45g a day a 4kg bag lasts one cat about 89 days; three cats will finish it inside a month.
• Introduce over a week: 25% Canagan on day one, half and half on day three, 75% on day five, all Canagan by day seven.
• Canagan advise adjusting by 10% either way if your cat is carrying too much or too little condition.
• Roll the bag down and clip it after every meal, keep it out of the sun, and keep water available.

Care & Caution

• Despite being a duck and game recipe, this food contains chicken gravy at 1.8%, dried herring at 6% and dried egg at 2%. It is not a chicken-free, fish-free or egg-free diet and should not be used as an elimination trial for a cat reacting to any of those.

• Dry food supplies almost no water. Keep a bowl away from the food and watch intake closely in a cat with a history of urinary or kidney trouble.
