Skinner's sell this as Puppy & Junior Rich in Lamb & Rice, and the two words matter: it covers weaning right through to around eighteen months, so there is no switch to a junior food part-way. Brown rice leads at 39.3% with lamb meat meal at 15.5% and pea protein behind it.

It is declared maize, barley and wheat gluten free, which is what puts it on the sensitive side of the range, and at 24% protein and 12% fat it is deliberately gentler than the chicken puppy food. The 2.5kg bag suits one pup rather than a litter.

Feeding

• Feed four small meals a day at weaning, dropping to three and then two as the puppy grows.

• Soften with tepid water for a newly weaned pup and reduce the water gradually.
