Scaly leg is caused by a mite that burrows under the leg scales and lifts them, leaving the crusted, thickened legs that give the condition its name. Nettex's spray works by suffocation — it creates conditions the mite cannot live in — while softening and cleansing the scales so the bird is more comfortable.

The method matters as much as the product. Nettex ask for it to be sprayed onto a soft toothbrush and worked upwards into and under the scales, every day for five to six days to break the egg cycle, then repeated over two to three weeks. Legs take months to look normal again, which is not a sign the treatment has failed.

How to Use

• Repeat every day for five to six days, to break the egg cycle.
• Repeat the course over two to three weeks, or until the infestation is gone.
• Treat the housing at the same time, or the birds will simply be reinfested.
