Cod with Herring is the lean one. Fat is declared at 2% against 6% for the meat trays and 12% for the boar, which makes it the obvious tray for a small dog that needs feeding without gaining, or one that has had a bout of pancreatitis and is being kept on low fat.

The fish is MSC certified — cod at 61% and herring at 4% — and the additive pack differs from the rest of the Petite range, carrying vitamin A at 7,500 IU and biotin at 100 µg per kg rather than the vitamin D3 blend used in the meat trays. Moisture is the highest in the range at 78.5%.

Feeding

• Canagan's guide: 2–3 trays a day for a 3kg dog, 3–4 at 5kg, 4–5 at 7kg, 5–6 at 10kg and 6–7 at 12kg.
• Because the tray is lean, a dog moved onto it from a richer recipe may need the upper end of its band.
• Introduce it over a few days, raising the proportion of new food each day.
• Serve at room temperature — a tray straight from the fridge smells of very little.
• Refrigerate once opened and use within two days.
