TopSpec Super Conditioning Flakes – 20kg High Oil Conditioning Feed
TopSpec Super Conditioning Flakes – 20kg
Super Conditioning Flakes are micronised flaked naked oats and micronised full fat soya beans, declared at 11% oil, 15% protein and 16.0 MJ/kg. They exist to put weight on a horse whose bucket is already as full as it can be — TopSpec's own guide is that 1.5kg of flakes replaces 2kg of traditional cereal-based feed, so the same calories arrive in less volume.
The honest headline is the starch. TopSpec declare it at 38.0%, because naked oats are a cereal and micronising them makes that starch more available, not less. This is a high-energy, high-starch conditioning feed and should be chosen on that basis. If you need condition without the starch, this is the wrong bag.
Performance & Benefits
- 11% oil and 16.0 MJ/kg — among the most energy-dense feeds TopSpec make.
- 15% protein from micronised full fat soya beans, supporting muscle as well as fat cover.
- Micronised flaking makes both the starch and the oil more digestible.
- 1.5kg replaces around 2kg of traditional cereals or cereal-based feed, so calories go up without volume going up.
- Highly palatable to horses whose appetite has dropped, and easier than getting liquid oil into a fussy feeder.
- Starch declared at 38.0%. This is a cereal-based conditioning feed, not a low-starch one.
Suitable For
- Poor doers and hard keepers in regular work.
- Show horses needing condition and coat bloom.
- Horses coming back in light after illness, injury or a hard winter.
- Mares in late gestation and lactating mares.
- Horses that will not take liquid oil or greasy supplements.
- Not suitable for a horse prone to laminitis, insulin dysregulated, or being managed on a controlled-starch diet — TopSpec UlsaKind Cubes at 7.0% starch are the conditioning feed we stock for those horses.
Feeding
- TopSpec's guide is that 1.5kg of Super Conditioning Flakes replaces 2kg of traditional cereals or cereal-based feed. They publish no absolute maximum daily quantity, so none is stated here.
- Feed alongside a TopSpec balancer or the All-in-One supplement — these flakes carry no added vitamins or trace elements.
- Introduce very gradually. Both the oil and the starch need time for the gut to adapt.
- Split the daily amount across two or more feeds and keep single meals small.
- Ensure clean, fresh water and ad lib forage are always available.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: micronised flaked naked oats, micronised full fat soyabeans (GM), cane molasses, calcium carbonate, sodium chloride, soya oil (GM).
- Typical analysis: protein 15.0%, oil 11.0%, fibre 3.0%, starch 38.0%.
- Digestible energy 16.0 MJ/kg. Calcium 1.0%, magnesium 0.2%.
- No added vitamins or trace elements — TopSpec declare none for this blend.
- TopSpec publish no sugar percentage, so none is stated here.
- 20kg bag.
Care & Caution
- Starch is declared at 38.0% and fibre at only 3.0%. Do not feed this to a horse or pony prone to laminitis, diagnosed with EMS, PPID or insulin dysregulation, or managed on a low-starch diet for a muscle disorder.
- Keep individual meals small — no more than about 2kg of total concentrate in one feed for a 500kg horse — and never feed a large starch meal to a horse that has just come in hot.
- Introduce over two to three weeks. A sudden jump in starch and oil is a well-recognised cause of colic and loose droppings.
