Small dogs get dental disease earlier and worse than big ones, largely because the same number of teeth are packed into a shorter jaw. The Alligator answers that with grooves cut deep enough to reach between crowded teeth, and a knobbly ridge along the back that the dog has to work at rather than crunch through.

The Small is scaled for dogs of 7–11kg and comes in at 44 kcal a chew, a quarter of the Large. That calorie figure matters more on a 9kg dog than on a 25kg one, which is why Whimzees size by bodyweight rather than by preference.
