Spillers Ulca Fibre – 20kg

Ulca Fibre is an alfalfa-based fibre feed built for horses prone to gastric ulcers, and it does something most fibre feeds cannot: it carries real calories. Oil sits at 10% and digestible energy at 12.5 MJ/kg, so a horse in work can be conditioned on it while starch stays at 5% and sugar at 4%.

Lucerne heads the ingredient list, and soft short-chopped alfalfa is the practical part — it takes a long time to eat, which keeps saliva flowing and provides a natural buffer against stomach acid. Spillers state the feed is proven to help support horses prone to gastric ulcers, citing their own research.

Feeding

• 500kg horse in light work: 3kg a day split across at least two meals, with 9kg hay or 10–12kg haylage.
• 500kg horse in heavy work or training: 6kg a day split across at least three meals, with the same forage.
• Alternatively for heavy work: 3kg Ulca Fibre plus 3kg Spillers Ulca Power Cubes daily, each split across at least three meals.
• Introduce gradually, as with any new feed.
• Clean, fresh water at all times.

• Composition: lucerne (alfalfa), sunflower seed meal dehulled, soya bean hulls (genetically modified), wheatfeed, rapeseed oil, chopped cereal straw (wheat & oat), soya bean meal (genetically modified), cane molasses, desugared beet molasses and soya oil blend, dried grass, calcium carbonate, salt, dicalcium phosphate, magnesium oxide, plus added vitamins and minerals.
• Typical analysis: digestible energy 12.5 MJ/kg, protein 15%, oil 10%, fibre 23%, starch 5%, sugar 4%.
• Vitamins and minerals: A 14,000 iu/kg, D3 2,000 iu/kg, E 450 iu/kg, selenium 0.5 mg/kg, copper 45 mg/kg, zinc 125 mg/kg.

Care & Caution

• Gastric ulcers need veterinary diagnosis and treatment. This feed supports management alongside veterinary care; it does not treat ulcers.
• At 10% oil it is a rich feed. Build the ration up over ten to fourteen days rather than switching in one go.
