SPILLERS Performance Mix – 20kg

Performance Mix is Spillers' competition coarse mix: flaked barley, rolled oats, flaked maize and flaked peas over a fibre base, at 11.5 MJ/kg with 20% starch and 5.5% oil. It is built to fuel a horse in medium to hard work with a mixture of quick and slower-release energy rather than starch alone.

Around the cereals sit the things that matter to a horse in a busy season: 500 iu/kg vitamin E for muscle and immune function, 11,000 iu/kg vitamin A, chelated copper and zinc, live yeast and both MOS and FOS prebiotics. Protein is 13% and fibre 14%, so it is a properly balanced feed rather than a bag of cereal.

Feeding

• Introduce gradually over seven to ten days as workload rises.
• 500kg horse in medium work: 3.5kg daily, split across a minimum of two meals, plus forage.
• 600kg horse in medium work: 4kg daily, split across a minimum of two meals, plus forage.
• Drop the amount on rest days, and match the feed to the work the horse actually did.
• Ad-lib forage and clean water at all times.

• Composition: flaked barley, oatfeed, sunflower seed meal dehulled, wheatfeed, rice bran, cane molasses and soya oil blend, grass high temperature dried, oats (lightly rolled), flaked maize, flaked peas, calcium carbonate, molasses blend, rapeseed oil, salt, oligo-fructose (dried, 0.2%), yeast products (0.1%), with added vitamins, minerals, probiotic live yeast and prebiotics MOS and FOS.
• Typical analysis: digestible energy 11.5 MJ/kg, oil 5.5%, protein 13.0%, fibre 14.0%, starch 20.0%, sugar 5.5%.
• Vitamin A 11,000 iu/kg. Vitamin E 500 iu/kg. Copper 35 mg/kg. Zinc 130 mg/kg.
• 20kg bag. BETA NOPS approved.
• Sodium bicarbonate and whole barley appeared in this store's previous ingredient list; neither is in the composition Spillers publish, so both have been removed.

Care & Caution

• At 20% starch this is not a feed for a horse or pony prone to laminitis, or one diagnosed with insulin dysregulation or PPID.
• Never feed a competition ration to a horse standing in on box rest or a rest day at the same rate it gets in work. Cut it back with the workload.
• Split the daily amount across at least two meals so no single bucket carries a large starch load.
