Horse Care 10 Cubes is the oat-free, high-fibre cube in the RED MILLS Horse Care range, carrying their Nutrition Care package of maerl, prebiotic mannan- and fructo-oligosaccharides, chelated trace elements and added biotin, vitamin C and vitamin K3. Soya hulls and sugar beet pulp head the ingredient list, which is why crude fibre reaches 13.0%.

Of the two protein levels RED MILLS offer in this cube, this is the 10% one, for a horse in work whose protein needs are already met by decent forage. Digestible energy is 11.6 MJ/kg — steady rather than fizzy — though the declared starch is 16%, which is worth reading carefully before choosing it for a metabolic horse.

Feeding

• Light work: 0.2–0.6kg per 100kg bodyweight daily — 1.0–3.0kg for a 500kg horse.
• Moderate work: 0.4–0.8kg per 100kg bodyweight daily — 2.0–4.0kg for a 500kg horse.
• Hard work: 0.8–1.2kg per 100kg bodyweight daily — 4.0–6.0kg for a 500kg horse.
• Intense work: 1.2–1.6kg per 100kg bodyweight daily — 6.0–8.0kg for a 500kg horse.
• Split into small, regular meals and feed alongside good forage and maximum grazing.
• Clean, fresh water at all times.

RED MILLS' declared figures are 8.0% ash, 11.6 MJ/kg, 48.75mg copper, 2,500 iu vitamin D3 and 375 iu vitamin E, and no yeast appears in their composition.

Care & Caution

• Declared starch is 16%. Do not read “high fibre” or “Horse Care” as safe for laminitis, insulin resistance or EMS — it is not.
• High-fibre cubes swell when wet. Soak them for a horse with poor teeth or one that bolts its feed.
• Introduce gradually over 7–14 days and adjust the rate to hold the condition you want.
