Hilight Stud Cubes – 20kg

Stud Cubes are Hilight's feed for broodmares and growing youngstock, in a 20kg sack. Pregnancy and, far more demandingly, lactation lift a mare's protein and mineral needs well above maintenance, and a stud feed exists to meet that without simply pouring in more calories from a general-purpose bucket feed.

Hilight is a merchant brand sold through country stores rather than direct, and runs no product website of its own. We have not reproduced the oil, protein and vitamin figures that circulate on merchant listings, because there is no manufacturer source to check them against. For a broodmare or a growing youngster the declaration on the sack matters more than usual, so read it before you start.

Performance & Benefits

Suitable For

• Mares in the last third of pregnancy and through lactation.
• Growing youngstock from weaning onwards.
• Studs and yards feeding several mares that need identical, measurable rations.
• Feeding alongside good grazing or hay, which remains the bulk of the diet.
• Not the feed for a mature horse in ridden work with no breeding demands — the Hilight Hi Fibre Horse and Pony Cubes or the Improver Conditioning Cubes fit that job better.

Feeding

• Introduce over 7 to 14 days rather than switching a mare or foal abruptly.
• Feed to bodyweight, stage of pregnancy or lactation, and condition score.
• Youngstock rates should follow a target growth rate, not the youngster's appetite.
• Split the daily amount across at least two feeds.
• Hilight publish no feeding rates online. Use the rates printed on the sack.
• Fresh clean water at all times, and more of it than usual for a lactating mare.

Care & Caution

• Growing youngstock are easily over-fed. Feed to a steady growth rate your vet or nutritionist is happy with, not to appetite.
• Sudden increases in hard feed for a young horse are best avoided; change the ration in small steps.
