GWF Camelibra 20kg, High Specification Llama & Alpaca Fee
GWF Camelibra NG-2 – 20kg
Camelibra NG-2 is GWF Nutrition's complementary feed for llamas and alpacas, built around the fact that camelids are not small sheep. They ferment fibre in a three-compartment forestomach, they are very good at it, and what they usually lack on UK grazing is not calories but the trace elements and vitamins a forage-only diet cannot supply. Camelibra is fed in small measured amounts against that gap rather than as a bulk ration.
GWF fold 36 active nutraceuticals into it, four of them delivered through their Oatinol system, which is intended to maintain gut cell integrity and improve absorption of the vitamins and trace elements fed alongside. The mineral side is deliberately generous and largely chelated, which is where the zinc figure people quote comes from. It is made in the UK to UFAS standards and sold in 20kg bags only.
Performance & Benefits
- Formulated specifically for llamas and alpacas rather than adapted from a sheep or horse feed.
- 36 active nutraceuticals, including the four in GWF's Oatinol Delivery System.
- Zinc totals 983mg/kg, of which 633mg/kg is chelated — the figure behind GWF's fibre and skin claims.
- Selenium at 2.9mg/kg, most of it as zinc-L-selenomethionine rather than sodium selenite.
- Seaweed meal, maerl and magnesium oxide give natural buffering in the forestomach.
- Mannan oligosaccharide yeast products act as a prebiotic for fibre-digesting bacteria.
- Manufactured in the UK to Universal Feed Assurance Scheme standards.
Suitable For
- Llamas and alpacas of all ages on forage or fibre-based diets.
- Herds on UK grazing where trace element cover is the weak point rather than energy.
- Feeding through winter, when GWF raise the daily rate.
- Owners who want a measured supplement rather than a bulk hard feed.
- Not a feed for sheep, goats or cattle — the copper is set for camelids and is far above what sheep tolerate.
Feeding
- Mix with fibre pellets or chaff. This is a complementary feed and is not fed on its own.
- Summer: 1g per kg of liveweight daily — 60g for a 60kg alpaca.
- Winter: 1.25g per kg of liveweight daily — 75g for a 60kg alpaca.
- Forage remains the basis of the diet, with clean water always available.
- Weigh the daily amount rather than scooping it; the quantities are small.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: soya hulls, linseed expeller, oats, hemp seed husks, micronised sugar beet pulp, oat flour, dicalcium phosphate, soya bean meal, vegetable oils and fats, calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide, sodium chloride, oat bran, calcium sulphate anhydrous, maerl, monocalcium phosphate, cane molasses, yeast products (mannan oligosaccharides), seaweed meal, maize cobs, blackcurrants, maize, dried oak foliage, pomegranate, rosemary, propylene glycerol and flavouring compounds. 20kg.
- Crude protein 16.8%. Crude oils and fats 6.2%. Crude fibre 15.4%. Crude ash 12.8%. Sodium 0.3%.
- Per kg: vitamin A 70,000iu, vitamin D3 15,000iu, vitamin E 700mg, vitamin C 100mg, vitamin K 10mg, niacin 80mg, biotin 1mg.
- Per kg: copper 157mg, zinc 983mg, manganese 413mg, iron 50mg, iodine 9mg, selenium 2.9mg, protected methionine 2,875mg, carnitine 400mg.
- GWF declare the soya hulls and soya bean meal as genetically modified material.
Care & Caution
- Copper is included at 157mg/kg. That level suits camelids and is dangerous to sheep, which accumulate copper — keep this feed where sheep on the same holding cannot reach it.
- A complementary feed, not a complete one. Fed without adequate forage it will not meet a camelid's fibre requirement.
- Introduce it gradually. Camelids are conservative feeders and a sudden change is often simply refused.
