Extra Select Meadow Hay Small 1Kg
Extra Select Meadow Hay – 1kg
Extra Select Meadow Hay is a blend of grasses cut from chemical-free pastures, left unchopped so the strands stay long, and dust extracted before packing. Long strands are the point: a rabbit or guinea pig has to pull and grind at them, which is what keeps the back teeth worn down and the gut moving.
The 1kg bag is the small one in the range, which suits a single small animal or a few days of bedding rather than a month’s supply. It doubles as bedding and nesting material — the same hay that gets eaten also gets burrowed into, and that is how most owners use it.
Performance & Benefits
- Unchopped, so the grass strands stay long enough to chew properly rather than being swallowed whole.
- Dust extracted before packing, which matters for a small animal living with its nose in the stuff.
- Grown on chemical-free pastures, from a blend of naturally grown grasses rather than a single species.
- Works as feed, as bedding and as nesting material.
- Encourages foraging — a hay rack or a scattered pile gives a caged animal something to do.
- 1kg bag; Extra Select also pack the same hay in 2kg and 4kg.
Suitable For
- Rabbits and guinea pigs, for whom long-strand hay should make up the bulk of the daily diet.
- Hamsters, gerbils, rats and other small pets as nesting and bedding.
- Poultry and chickens, as floor and nest box material.
- Owners trying one bag before committing to a larger pack.
- Not enough for a horse or a pony at any price — this is a small-animal bag, and forage for equines belongs in bale or wrapped-bale quantities.
Feeding
- Fill a hay rack or leave a generous pile, and top it up daily rather than waiting for it to be finished.
- A rabbit or guinea pig should have unlimited access to hay alongside its pellets and fresh greens.
- Shake it out before it goes in — loose strands go further than a compressed block.
- Clear out soiled hay daily; it is used as bedding as well as food and the two get mixed.
- Keep the bag closed and off a damp floor between uses.
Specification
- Unchopped, dust-extracted meadow hay. 1kg.
- A blend of naturally grown grasses from chemical-free pastures.
- Extra Select publish no analytical constituents — no protein, fibre or sugar figures — for this hay, so none is given here.
- No single grass species is declared; it is sold as a meadow blend.
- Extra Select list the range on their own site as multipacks — 6 x 1kg, 3 x 2kg and 2 x 4kg — rather than as single bags.
