Blue Chip Lami Light Feed Balancer – 15kg
Blue Chip Lami Light Feed Balancer – 15kg
Lami Light is Blue Chip's balancer for the horse that needs the vitamins and minerals but emphatically does not need the calories. Blue Chip formulate it for horses and ponies prone to laminitis and for good doers being managed for weight, and they put its digestible energy at 9.1 MJ/kg — low enough that a full daily serving adds very little to the ration.
The rest of the analysis runs 15.5% crude protein, 5% oils and fats, 16% crude fibre, 14.5% crude ash and 0.7% sodium. Blue Chip's own line on the sugar and starch is that there is no added sugar and that it is naturally low in starch; they publish no percentage for either, which is worth knowing if you are counting them for a metabolic horse.
Performance & Benefits
- Digestible energy 9.1 MJ/kg, so it balances the diet without adding meaningful calories.
- 15.5% crude protein, supplying quality protein on a low-calorie ration.
- Blue Chip state no added sugar, and describe the balancer as naturally low in starch.
- Chelated minerals alongside straight minerals, and a full added vitamin package.
- Includes MSM, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, MOS, beta-glucans, nucleotides and DL-methionine.
- Rosemary extract, eucalyptus and garlic powder are in the declared composition.
- Blue Chip say one 15kg sack lasts an average horse around 30 days, and a small pony around 60.
Suitable For
- Horses and ponies prone to laminitis, under veterinary guidance.
- Good doers and natives being managed for weight, where a conditioning feed is out of the question.
- Horses on forage-only or restricted diets that still need vitamins and minerals.
- Horses at rest or in light work.
- Not a feed for a horse in hard work or needing to gain condition, and not a replacement for veterinary treatment of laminitis — a conditioning balancer suits the first, and your vet the second.
Feeding
- Feed once daily, mixed with a small amount of chaff or a low-calorie fibre feed so it is taken up properly.
- Blue Chip's own guide to quantity is by sack duration: around 30 days for an average horse, around 60 for a small pony, from a 15kg sack. The gram rates for your horse's weight are printed on the sack.
- Introduce gradually over a week or so.
- Do not feed alongside a second broad-spectrum balancer or a separate vitamin and mineral supplement.
- Forage and fresh water at all times.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: wheatfeed, soya (bean) hulls (GM) and linseed expeller, calcium carbonate, monocalcium phosphate, sodium chloride, calcium sulphate anhydrous (pellet binder), magnesium oxide, minerals, chelated minerals and vitamins, lucerne (alfalfa) meal, rosemary extract, eucalyptus and garlic powder, MSM, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, MOS, beta-glucans, nucleotides, DL-methionine, dextrose, rapeseed oil.
- Analytical constituents: digestible energy 9.1 MJ/kg, crude protein 15.5%, crude oils and fats 5%, crude fibre 16%, crude ash 14.5%, sodium 0.7%.
- Blue Chip publish no starch or sugar percentage for Lami Light. Earlier copy on this page called it low in starch and sugar as though those were measured figures; Blue Chip's actual wording is no added sugar and naturally low in starch.
- Earlier copy also credited the balancer with Sepiolite clay and with SoundHoof and PrimoVento formulas. Sepiolite does not appear in the composition above, and neither formula name is used on Blue Chip's current Lami Light page.
- Supplied as a 15kg sack.
Care & Caution
- This is a balancer, not a treatment. A horse with active or suspected laminitis needs a vet and a management plan; feed follows that, it does not replace it.
- No starch or sugar figure is published, so if you are managing an insulin-dysregulated, EMS or PPID horse to a target intake, check the declaration on the sack or ask Blue Chip directly.
- Do not stack it with another balancer or a broad-spectrum vitamin and mineral supplement. Doubling up risks over-supplying selenium and the fat-soluble vitamins.
- It contains garlic. Check the current rules before feeding it to a horse competing under FEI or racing regulation.
