Baileys No.4 Top Line Conditioning Cubes – 20kg

The No.4 cube is Baileys' best-known conditioning feed and the ingredient list is short for a compound: micronised wheat, nutritionally improved straw, wheatfeed, distillers' grains and micronised soya beans, with grape pip solubles and Digest Plus scFOS prebiotic behind them. It runs at 13.5 MJ/kg and 12.5% protein.

Baileys expect visible change in as little as two weeks at their recommended feeding level, which is a specific enough claim to hold them to. The cubes are barley-free and non-heating, so condition and topline go on without the behaviour change that usually follows a jump in energy. Supplied in 20kg.

Feeding

• Feed by weight alongside forage. One level Stubbs round bowl scoop holds about 1.8kg of cubes.
• Baileys cap a meal at 0.5kg of cubes per 100kg bodyweight — 2.5kg for a 500kg horse.
• Keep total meal size within 1.5–2kg for a horse or 1.25–1.5kg for a pony, chaff and beet pulp included.
• The two-week claim applies at Baileys' recommended rate, not at a token handful in the bottom of the bowl.
• Build up over two to three weeks, and dampen the cubes for an older mouth.

Care & Caution

• Starch is 26%. Not suitable for a horse with laminitis, insulin resistance, PPID or a history of tying-up.
• Keep to Baileys' 0.5kg per 100kg bodyweight meal limit and split the daily amount across feeds.
• Introduce it over two to three weeks. A conditioning feed put in too quickly is a colic risk.
• Reduce the rate once the horse has the condition you want; this is not a feed to leave a horse on indefinitely.
