Baileys No.17 Top Line Conditioning Mix – 20kg

No.17 is the mix version of Baileys' Top Line conditioning feeds, and the thing that defines it is what is missing: there are no oats in it. The cereals are micronised wheat, barley and maize, all cooked, which gives a different energy character from whole oats even at 12.5 MJ/kg.

Alfalfa meal is the second ingredient by inclusion, and micronised soya beans and cooked linseed take oil to 6% and supply the omega fatty acids behind the coat change most people notice first. Starch is 32%, so this is a genuine conditioning feed and needs feeding like one. Supplied in 20kg.

Feeding

• Feed by weight alongside forage. One level Stubbs round bowl scoop holds about 1.3kg of this mix.
• Baileys cap a meal at 0.5kg of mix per 100kg bodyweight — 2.5kg for a 500kg horse.
• Keep total meal size within 1.5–2kg for a horse or 1.25–1.5kg for a pony, chaff and beet pulp included.
• Build up to the full conditioning rate over two to three weeks.
• Baileys publish their per-workload rates on the bag rather than online; their nutrition team will set a rate.

Care & Caution

• Starch is 32%. Not suitable for a horse with laminitis, insulin resistance, PPID or a history of tying-up.
• Keep to Baileys' 0.5kg per 100kg bodyweight meal limit and split the daily amount across meals.
• Introduce it over two to three weeks; a conditioning feed puts weight on faster than a gut adapts.
• Reassess the rate once the horse has the condition you want rather than leaving it on full rations.
