A cow hoof with the hollow packed full of meat, sold as one piece. It works in two stages: the dog spends the first part of the session digging the filling out of the cavity, which takes concentration and a lot of tongue work, then settles on the keratin hoof itself, which Anco describe as a natural toothbrush.

The filling is declared as beef 80% and sheep fat 20%, and that sheep fat is what lifts the analysis to 28% fat overall against 48.7% protein. Unusually for this range, Anco also publish moisture at 7.3% and fibre at 0.9%. Once the filling is gone the hoof can be refilled or simply left with the dog to gnaw.

Care & Caution

• A hollow hoof can split into a sharp-edged shell as it wears — check it between sessions and discard it once it is thin, cracked or small enough to swallow.
• At 28% fat the filling is rich; keep this occasional for dogs prone to pancreatitis.
