Fancy Feeds Chick Crumb – 20kg

A complete starter crumb for chicks, ducklings and goslings from hatching to six or eight weeks. The first weeks set the frame a bird carries for the rest of its life, and getting protein and the amino acid profile right at that stage matters more than at any point afterwards.

Fancy Feeds declare 19% protein, with copper at 25mg/kg, niacin at 52mg/kg and methionine at 0.4%, alongside Bio-Mos prebiotic at 8g/kg and Sel-Plex organic selenium. The 20kg sack is the size for a proper hatch — an incubator run or a rearing pen — where it will be finished well inside the six to eight week window.

Feeding

• Feed from hatching to six or eight weeks, then change to a grower ration.
• Ad lib feeding is what Fancy Feeds specify. Do not ration it and do not mix grain through it.
• Keep insoluble flint grit available so birds can grind their feed in the gizzard. Oyster shell is for laying hens and should not be offered at this age.
• Change across to Fancy Feeds Growers Pellets gradually, over a few days.
• Fresh, clean water at all times, in a drinker shallow enough that chicks cannot drown in it.

Care & Caution

• Never give layers pellets or layers mash to birds this age. The calcium in a layers ration is set for shell formation and it damages the developing kidneys of a growing bird.
• Do not bulk the crumb out with mixed corn. Corn is energy with very little protein, and chicks will choose it over the crumb every time.
• A 20kg sack is a lot of feed for a small hatch. Keep it sealed against damp and rodents, and check it is still fresh before each use.
