Bedsoft Shavings are a blend of kiln-dried softwood, predominantly spruce, with a deliberate mix of larger and smaller shavings so the bed both cushions and packs down. They are light in colour with a pleasant woody aroma and arrive in compact, uniform bales.

Bedsoft screen and dust-extract them in what they describe as a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, specifically to remove fine particles. Shavings stay the default on most yards for one blunt practical reason above all others: they are inedible, so a horse that would strip a straw bed overnight leaves these alone.
