Henry Bell Essentials Pre Filled Peanut Feeder Bird Feeder Ready to Hang
Henry Bell Essentials Ready to Feed Peanut Feeder
Henry Bell supply this Essentials peanut feeder already filled with 250g of their premium peanuts, so it hangs straight out of the packaging with nothing else to buy. Product code H040004 in their pre-filled range.
Peanuts are the food that brings in the birds most people are hoping to see — nuthatches, great spotted woodpeckers, blue and great tits — because at 48.7% crude fat and 26.9% crude protein there is very little else in a garden that pays a bird back so well for the effort of hanging on a mesh.
Performance & Benefits
- Supplied filled with 250g of Henry Bell premium peanuts, ready to hang from the pack.
- Crude fat 48.7% and crude protein 26.9% — among the richest single foods you can offer.
- Henry Bell test their peanuts for aflatoxins, the mould toxin that makes cheap catering nuts unsafe for birds.
- Mesh holds the nuts so birds work pieces off rather than carrying whole kernels away.
- Refills from any bag of whole peanuts once the first 250g has gone.
- Henry Bell product code H040004, Essentials pre-filled range.
Suitable For
- Nuthatches, great spotted woodpeckers, blue tits, great tits, greenfinches, goldfinches, chaffinches, starlings and long-tailed tits — the species Henry Bell name for their peanuts.
- Year-round feeding, which Henry Bell recommend as garden food sources keep shrinking.
- Hanging from a tree, a bracket or a feeding station arm.
- Gardens already running a seed feeder that want to widen the range of birds coming in.
- Not a feeder for fine seed — nyger runs straight through a peanut mesh, so use the Henry Bell Essentials Nyger Seed Feeder for that.
Feeding
- Hang the feeder and leave it; Henry Bell's guidance is simply to put food out regularly and keep plenty of fresh water available.
- Top up with whole peanuts as the level drops rather than letting the mesh stand empty.
- Empty out and wash the feeder before refilling, and let it dry fully — damp peanuts go mouldy quickly.
- Feed peanuts from the mesh feeder only, never loose on a table or the ground.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: peanuts.
- Analytical constituents: crude protein 26.9%, crude fibres 2.7%, crude fat 48.7%, crude ash 2.3%.
- 250g of peanuts supplied in the first fill.
- Henry Bell peanuts are tested for aflatoxins.
- Henry Bell publish no dimensions, weight or mesh gauge for the pre-filled feeders, so none are stated here.
Care & Caution
- Whole peanuts can choke a nestling. Keep them in the mesh feeder through the breeding season so adults can only take small pieces, and never put whole nuts out loose.
- Peanuts that are not sold for wild birds may carry aflatoxins, which are fatal to birds. Refill only with nuts sold and tested for bird feeding.
- Throw away any nuts that have gone damp, soft or mouldy in the feeder rather than topping up over them.
- Wash and dry the feeder between fills; shared feeders spread trichomonosis and salmonellosis between garden birds.
